I started doing yoga

This post is addressed to those who are going to yoga classes for the first time. I hope my simple tips will be useful to beginner yogis, and more advanced practitioners will share their thoughts and observations in the comments.

For those who don’t need advice, I immediately give links to the description and schedule of yoga classes at the Tapas center: The preparatory class is recommended for those who are not at all familiar with Iyengar yoga and consists of several orientation classes. The initial class is suitable for almost everyone, regardless of level of training. If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to start with a recovery class

And now practical tips: 1) As a rule, they practice yoga barefoot. Of course, it is not forbidden to come to classes in socks, but at the same time you will not be able to fully observe the sensations of the foot, which is very important when performing many asanas. Safety issues are also important – in socks you are more at risk of slipping on the parquet floor – and even on the rug the foot does not have the necessary stability and sensitivity. If you are concerned about hygiene issues, it is not a problem to wash your feet after class (each yoga center usually has a shower room).

2) Clothing for yoga. There are no special clothing requirements. The main thing is that she does not constrain movement. And the second point – the teacher should see if you are doing the exercises correctly.

3) It all starts small. Many people are worried that in yoga classes they will be immediately forced to perform some incredible poses, while someone on the contrary expects something like training in circus tricks. In fact, everything is much more prosaic, in yoga classes for beginners, as a rule, very simple asanas. BUT! This is a real (!) Yoga practice. Even in the simplest posture, try to focus as much as possible on the sensations of your body, on the words of the teacher. Do not be surprised if what is happening seems to you too simple (maybe you need a more advanced class, or maybe you misunderstand the work). Conversely, don’t worry if any of the teacher’s instructions seem too complicated for you to understand and fulfill. Believe me, 2-3 … 10 lessons will be held and the words will become clear, and the body more obedient.
