"It's rather beautiful...just what you need on a stressful day."
- Andrew Collins, BBC 6 Music and Word magazine.

"This is a quality piece of work - poignant songs given a sensitive treatment. Very good indeed...nice work fella."
- Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2.

"A curiously engaging sound, etched in deceptively evocative chord changes. Contemplative sophistication...unimposing intelligence."
- Andy Gill, The Independent. Full Review.

1. Joni's Garden

1st track on the album, last one to be recorded. I didnt have a title for the album until this point. Lyrically it kind of sums up the whole thing. It`s just me on guitars and vocals with David Scott joining in on handclaps. A good start!

2. Green

When I was cycling to work one morning I was cut up by a Harley Davidson, which pissed me off. I decided to channel my anger positively and so we all benefit from my misfortune. Instrument-wise a bit of a Roy Castle moment, as I played the lot.

3. Anything Goes

Afternoon reveries, just looking around the room, inspiration to be found in every corner. Why ask why? Alan on bass, Jim Gash on drums.

4. I Get It!

A song of thanks and a song of lists. I wanted to emulate Jobim`s "Waters of March". Alan on bass and keyboards and The Gash on drums.

5. The Dreamer

I met Isobel Campbell through Sushil, a mutual friend. I wrote this specifically for her to sing. Ethereal and light.

6. If I Gave it All Away

Recorded up at Joe`s studio with one eye on the clock. There was footie on and we didnt want to miss the second half. I`d quite like Emmylou Harris to have a crack at this one.

7. It's Nothing

A country-ish ramble through some major 7th chords. Joe thought it sounded a bit like Elliott Smith, and I must admit I agree.

8. I Can't Believe I Let Her Slip Away

Joe arranged some sweet strings for this and he captured the sadness of the lyric very well. I wish I could go back in time and get a young Michael Jackson to sing this for me.

9. Blink of an Eye

A deceptively simple song. Not much happening, but Isobel sings it beautifully.

10. The Sun and Moon and Stars

Its about an old knight(ideally played by Richard Harris) who refuses to lie down and admit he`s come to the end of the road. A bit classical and a bit psychedelic. Alan, God bless him, played keyboards.

11. Time Machine

The words are self explanatory. The world keeps on turning and gives us lucky ones chance after chance. Its up to us to recognise and grab them. A circular song which loops you back to the beginning of the album. Gash on drums, Hutchison on harpsichord and Scott chimes in again at the end.
